Billy Cobham - "Spectrum"
Billy Cobham is at the very top of a VERY short list of drummers that are truly unique but he is also on an even shorter list of drummers that lead bands and compose/arrange the music played. Let me start by saying, he is a genius.
“Spectrum” is the first of Billy’s solo albums. It came out right after the demise of The Mahavishnu Orchestra which was the brain-child of Billy Cobham and guitarist John Mclaughlin, both of whom met while playing with Miles Davis.
“Spectrum” which remains Cobham’s best selling and most well-known solo album, is undeniably one of Fusion’s seminal albums. With a stellar cast of musicians from both the rock and jazz field including Tommy Bolin (guitar), Jan Hammer (also from Mahavishnu Orchestra) (Keys), Ray Barreto (congas) and many others.
“Stratus” is one of the most recognizable fusion tunes of the 70’s.
I can ramble forever regarding this record. Along with a few others, this album has truly made me the drummer who I am today. BUY!

I am absolutely in love with this short clip of music. It just keeps pushing forward and evokes such deep emotion… at least it does for me.
Hey. I guess I fucked up again… No one will find out.
